oscar de la renta 90s dresses Spring 1990 Oscar De La Renta Ocean Blues Silk Chiffon Strapless Dress – Shrimpton CoutureI recently had an all blue version of this dress in the shop and I was very happy to have this unusually dyed one come in. This dress beautifully showcases the genius of Oscar de la Renta and the work that he was doing in this time period. The attention to detail alone is fabulous. The dress has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking. This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love the earlier examples of it.

I recently had an all blue version of this dress in the shop and I was very happy to have this unusually dyed one come in. You can see how many of the elements in this dress are a reflection of the standards he adhered to for his entire career and body of work. I also love that we have a reference photo of its runway counterpart so that you can get a sense of how gorgeous this dress is on.

The dress is made from multiple layers of a lightweight slightly textured silk chiffon. The colour is just incredible. The dress has been hand dyed to be almost colour blocked with several tones of deep ocean blues. On the bodice the silk has been gathered in an elaborate ruching so that you see all of the colours stacked on top of each other for this beautiful ombre effect. All of the different colours of silk as gathered in to meet in the center with a twisted effect. The dress is strapless and the neckline is cut into a rounded sweetheart shape that is very flattering. It dips down in the center and there is wire inside to shape the cups. The bodice is fitted and cinches in at the waist with interior boning to help hold the shape. The skirt cascades to the floor at the back and then curves up and around to be higher at the front so you get a flash of leg when you move. The skirt is made up of three layers of weightless silk chiffon and this lets the skirt float over and around the body to give it the feel of airiness and lightness. The lightness of the silk gives it a gorgeous movement when you move and walk. I love how the colours are blocked onto the skirt in angled lines so that you get this stunning over-sized chevron effect. It is incredible. Excellent condition

The dress is fully lined through the bodice in a hand set blue silk and then the three layers of silk chiffon the skirt is made of serve as its lining. The dress closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hand finishes.

Got it for my college class, it was a required text.
Format: Paperback
Got this book for one my college class, no joke this was a required text. But overall it was an okay read, only reason why I gave it a 4 out 5 is because I prefer to read books for enjoyment and interest, reading a book for class takes that away.

Superman, a Dark Knight in the Skies
Format: Paperback
This is a beautiful tome of the first issues of Superman under Action Comics and the first Superman issue. Although providing the same texts of Chronicles, I find this series better because they have more issues per volume. In spite of its 390 pages, these volumes are light and easy to handle. Albeit the simplicity and innocence of these stories, Superman impresses me as a "dark knight" of the skies given his toughness with the bad guys. In these stories, he's got no compassion for criminals. He also defends the working class, stand for fair treatment of workers, and even takes an "isolationist" stance which was popular in the days before WWII. Another surprise for the first-time reader of this period is that Superman can't fly; he can only leap over tall buildings. There is no Krypton and no Daily Planet. The city of Metropolis is introduced for the first time in the second half of this tome. And Lois Lane is often relegated to unimportant journalistic tasks, while she has greater ambitions. It is a great experience to read these old stories in a beautifully designed tome. I hope they reproduce the others quickly.

This is Superman like you DON'T remember him!
Format: Kindle
I've been a fan for as long as I've been able to tie a bath towel around my neck, so diving into these early comics has been a real joy! The character was quite different in the beginning so if you're not familiar with Golden Age Superman this might be quite the eye opener. Here in these early comics, Supes certainly isn't the Big Blue Boy Scout you knew and loved in the Silver Age and beyond; early on, he's more like the Well-Meaning Big Blue Bully/Borderline Sociopath. Sort of like early Golden Age Batman: bad guys die, Superman (or Batman) kind of shrugs and thinks, "Well, they got what they deserved..." His relationship with Lois is a bit more desperate-seeming in a few places as well. In fact, he's almost a bit stalker-ish in his pursuit/attitude toward Miss Lane. You can thank DC editor Whitney Ellsworth and a few others for softening the rough edges and turning The Man of Steel into the virtuous character we have today.

This is my Superman
Format: Paperback
Before super villains came along, Superman fought corrupt businessmen and world leaders. In this volume, you get stories like Superman trapping a wealthy mine owner in his own mine so he can feel what it’s like for his exploited workers (as I type that, I thought of a great parallel that might get this review removed haha), forced warring leaders to settle their differences in person, and destroyed a ghetto to get the government to pay to give the poor people modern housing (today our government would just leave them homeless but I digress) At some point in this volume, you get the first supervillain and it gradually goes away from this great Superman at that point but this Superman is my Superman, rough scripting/art and all
