Description

sterile gauze dressing Gauze Pads, Gauze Sponges, Surgical SpongesNon Sterile Gauze Pads (Surgical Gauze Sponges) Non sterile gauze pads are absorbent cotton (or cotton blend) squares or rectangles used for basic wound care and general medical tasks. They typically come in sizes like 22, 33, 44 (inches) and consist of multiple plies (layers) of woven gauze. Unlike sterile dressings, non sterile gauze is not guaranteed sterile because its sold in bulk packaging, so its suitable only for clean (non sterile)

Non-Sterile Gauze Pads (Surgical Gauze Sponges)

Non-sterile gauze pads are absorbent cotton (or cotton-blend) squares or rectangles used for basic wound care and general medical tasks. They typically come in sizes like 2×2″, 3×3″, 4×4″ (inches) and consist of multiple plies (layers) of woven gauze. Unlike sterile dressings, non-sterile gauze is not guaranteed sterile because it’s sold in bulk packaging, so it’s suitable only for “clean” (non-sterile) applications.

Materials: Usually made of cotton gauze (sometimes blended with rayon or polyester). They are soft, breathable, and highly absorbent. Some have folded edges to reduce lint (threads), though many are simply cut-edge.Sterility: The packs are not sterilized, so these pads should not be used on fresh surgical incisions or invasive procedures that require sterile technique. They are intended for routine cleaning and dressing tasks where full sterility isn’t necessary.

Uses

Non-sterile gauze pads have many everyday uses in healthcare and first aid. They can serve to:

  • Absorb fluids: Blot or soak up small-to-moderate amounts of blood, exudate, saliva, cleansers, etc. (e.g. after a finger-stick or cleaning a wound).
  • Pad/Cushion: Provide a soft cushion or barrier between skin and objects (like medical devices, splints, or rough surfaces)..
  • Cleaning aid: Wipe intact skin or non-critical surfaces. They can be used with antiseptic or soap to cleanse around a wound or injection site (but not inside a deep wound).
  • Secondary dressing: In some dressing setups, gauze pads are placed under tape or wraps to absorb drainage, even if the outer layer is a sterile bandage (following local protocol).

Because they’re inexpensive and widely available, non-sterile gauze pads are also used for general tasks like covering minor cuts or burns after cleaning, drying skin, packing small wounds, or even cleaning up spills in a clinical area. In summary, they are a utility dressing for many routine, non-sterile situations. (They are not a substitute for sterile dressings on surgical or high-risk wounds.

Precautions and Handling

  • Not for sterile wounds: Don’t use non-sterile gauze on open surgical incisions or when a sterile field is mandated. For those cases, only use properly sterilized dressings.
  • Single use: These pads are disposable, single-use items【7†28-L169-L177】. After using one pad on a wound or skin, discard it – do not attempt to wash or reuse it.
  • Storage: Keep the pads in their original clean container or box at room temperature. They should be dry and away from contamination. If packaging is torn or exposed, discard the pads.
  • Handling: Use clean hands or gloves when applying to avoid contaminating the pad. Non-sterile does not mean "free of all germs"【7†28-L169-L177】, so good hand hygiene is still important.
  • Lint: Some gauze pads shed fibers. If using on a sensitive area (e.g. eye or a deep wound), use a low-lint product or tape edges down as needed.
  • Allergies: Gauze is made of cotton or fibers; allergic reactions are extremely rare. Ensure the pad is appropriate for any skin sensitivities (some pads may contain tracers or markers).

Instructions for Use

  • Application: Place the dry gauze pad directly on the cleaned area of skin or wound. If the wound is open, you would typically use it after applying any antiseptic or ointment, then secure it with tape or a wrap. Gauze can absorb wound fluids and keep the area protected.
  • Size/Thickness: Choose an appropriate size and ply for the task. (Pads labeled by “ply” simply indicate layers; more plies means thicker and more absorbent.) For minor scrapes, a single 4×4 pad is often enough. For larger wounds, use several or a larger pad.
  • Covering: Gauze alone is loosely woven, so it often needs a secondary dressing (like tape, elastic bandage, or a sterile pad over it) to hold it in place and to create a barrier against contaminants.
  • Removal: Carefully remove and discard once soiled or no longer needed. Clean the skin again if necessary. Then apply a fresh pad if ongoing coverage is required.

Examples of Use Cases

  • Applying and spreading antiseptic on intact skin before an injection.
  • Covering a small laceration or puncture after cleaning and applying antibiotic ointment (then tape over the gauze).
  • Cleaning a wound or contoured area by wiping with saline or soap applied to the pad (on unbroken skin).
  • Padding between a cast or splint and the skin to prevent pressure sores.
  • Packing a cavity wound lightly (under a protocol where non-sterile packing is allowed).
  • First aid: blotting blood from a scraped knee, covering a blister, etc.

Important Tips

  • Use sterile gloves or wash hands before touching a pad if the wound must stay as clean as possible (even though the pad itself is non-sterile).
  • Do not use these pads on infected or deep puncture wounds unless sterile technique isn’t required, because they are not sanitized.
  • Be aware of facility or local guidelines: some settings may restrict even surface cleansing with non-sterile items.
  • Always follow a healthcare provider’s instructions if the gauze is part of a prescribed wound care regimen.

Non-sterile gauze pads are basic first-aid/dressing supplies. They help absorb fluids and protect skin, but they are meant for general use, not any specific medical treatment. They are not medications and do not “heal” wounds by themselves – they simply provide a clean, absorbent material for routine care tasks

Decent air mattress if you take care of it
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I’ve been buying this air mattress, and its previous model, for the last four years. I used to go camping and attend festivals about six times a year, and I wasn’t particularly nice to my air beds. Most of the time I didn’t fold them back up neatly or put them in the storage bag. I’d just deflate them, throw them in the car, and head to the next event. Even with that treatment, they held up surprisingly well. I was nervous about buying the new version with the redesigned inflate/deflate module, but on a whim I decided to give it a try. I used it during a five-night camping trip near Tygh Valley, Oregon at the end of May 2026, where temperatures ranged from about 85°F during the day to around 40°F at night. Did it lose some air over the weekend? Yes. Was it enough to bother me? No. In fact, over the entire five-night trip, I only had to add air once. Considering the temperature swings, I was impressed with how well it held up. The new model does seem to take a little longer to deflate than the older versions, but that’s a minor complaint. Overall, I’m very happy with it. I’ve had good luck with these mattresses over the years, and this new version seems just as solid as the previous model. I would absolutely recommend this mattress and will continue buying this model when it’s time to replace mine.

Better than our actual mattress!!
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen, Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
Purchased for company to stay with us in our apartment. I honestly had no idea they made air mattresses this tall until I saw a friend with one! My husband and I tested it out last night. We were both really impressed! 1. Really easy to inflate! First time having an internal air pump. No more forgetting the pump! The motor wasn’t nearly as loud as our previous air pump! I was able to talk to my husband and he could still hear me over the pump running. 2. Really comfortable and supportive! We chose not to inflate it fully so it contoured to our bodies better. We slept on the mattress with no sheets and I wasn’t able to feel the creases in the top which was nice. No issues with sagging and we both didn’t wake up smooshed in the middle. My husband got up in the middle of the night and I didn’t notice. So movement of the mattress is minimal! Easy to get on and off with the 22” height. 3. Easy to deflate! We followed the instructions for folding and we got it in the storage bag with no issues. Just make sure all of the air is out before you fold it. 4. High quality! We had both of our small dogs on this with us. I was afraid of their nails poking a hole but so far so good! Only a little bit of air leaked out but it could’ve been the material stretching out during the night. Cons: The pump does not shut off automatically when inflating or deflating. So keep an eye on it so it doesn’t overfill. The mattress does get cold at night. My husband and I both mentioned that in the morning. I had to roll up in my blanket to stay warm. I’ll try sheets on next time. In the summer it might not be that big of an issue. Ours came with one patch. Hopefully we won’t need to use it.

A lot of comfort for a very inexpensive price
Style: 18", Color: Grey, Size: Twin
We needed a spare mattress, but didn’t want to have a dedicated spare bedroom but wanted a comfortable bed. Couldn’t afford these high priced mattresses these days like the air beds or luxury coil spring with gel which are thousands of dollars. Miss air mattresses, very comfortable and adorable and I like the flocked top on it. And it has the self inflatable pump which is very easy and inconvenient. This makes a very inexpensive alternative. Even if it only lasts 6 months or so you can buy a whole lot of these for a lot less money than thousands of dollars for the other beds. In tax is a wonderful brand. I’ve bought it many times. Their vinyl material is very thick and durable. Intex makes flotation devices, blowup rafts, beach floaties, Kayaks, etc. They have an excellent product & know what they’re doing.

Great Queen Size Air Mattress - NO Fuss

Great air mattress! Comfortable to sleep on. Powerful pump. Nice size. The bag to store it is very convenient and one of the easiest to put bed in once deflated. Reviews spot on with this product.

Skeptical at first, but after first use (so far) it’s a solid product
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I initially bought this to stay at my MIL’s senior community (to help her get settled), so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it and I planned to leave it for other relatives that might want to visit. I expected it to be cheap-ish quality and probably not last through my two week stay. First off, set up was a breeze. I laid it out and started inflation and it took about 4-5 minutes to fully inflate. The motor made noise, but it’s to be expected from something like this—I can say that it wasn’t as noisy as our Costco-bought mattress. Second, it’s big—but that’s not a bad thing as much as I thought anyway after I saw it fully inflated. Turns out, for me, it’s a good thing. Our Costco mattress sits low to the floor and as it deflates a bit during the night, it’s tough to get up. This one (the 22” model and the largest one at this writing) is wonderful as I can sit on the edge of it and stand up easily. Your experience may be different, but for older folks it makes it really easy to get out of bed in the morning. How does it sleep? Well, since I was visiting by myself and my significant other wasn’t with me, I can only speak for a single sleeper. It was really comfortable! It did take a bit of tweaking though as I thought I would like it more firm as I like to side sleep. The first couple of nights were a bit rough as I tossed and turned a bit in my sleep—I found that I couldn’t get comfortable on my side. For the reviews that say that it deflates after sleeping on it, I can say that it did seem to lose some air after the first two nights. The manufacturer does state that it does “stretch” and not deflate. As I wanted to test that statement, I didn’t change the firmness of it by re-inflating it to where I had it. The third and fourth nights were better sleep and I didn’t feel like the mattress deflated at all, so I found the stretch statement to be valid—it wasn’t losing air. After that night, I re-inflated it to where I thought I’d like it. The next night was the same tossing and turning that I had those first two nights, so I concluded that I needed to make it less firm and I actually DEflated it a bit and for the rest of the stay it was perfect! I didn’t have to touch it and I even unplugged it. When I was getting ready to leave, I started the deflation process by turning the dial in the opposite direction. It took longer to deflate, so I walked away for a bit—I’d guess about 7-8 minutes. When I came back the mattress was flat as a pancake and ready to fold. This is the only hassle of the process as folding it to get it into the storage bag and back into the box (for storage). I do like the tote that they provide as the handles make it easy to lug about. So, the first use was a success. If repeated uses reveal issues, I’ll report back. I will say that I plan to buy another one to replace our beloved Costco air mattress—she’s showing her age and the height of this one as well as the cost make it a no-brainer to get it as a second. We’ll use this one until it dies (if it even does) and then fall back on our old one if needed. I gave an overall 5 stars for the product with 4 stars for sleep quality and comfort only because your idea of these two might be a bit of a learning experience until you find your inflation sweet spot—so it’s not just an “inflate fully and use” type of scenario.
