In more recent years, the hybridizers have managed to create new colors in the Tiger Lily group, maintaining the large flowers, the easy culture, the perennial qualities, and even the handsome black spots of the original Orange Tiger.'

The true Tiger Lilies: Don't make a common mistake, and call just any old spotted orange lily a 'Tiger Lily.' Only one group is descended from the real thing. Like most Asian species lilies, this old reliable was a staple in the Oriental diet for centuries. The bulbs were--and are--cooked for foods and soups. But it's not the taste that made this lily bulb world famous. It's the beautiful flowers and the ease of growing them.

The true Tiger Lily is native to Korea, but today, gardeners the world over enjoy the beautiful big flowers on strong stems that return year after year. In fact, Tiger lilies are now so common in the US, many people think they're native.

As long as you have well-drained soil, they will grow for you, perfectly perennial even in some of America's coldest climates.

This is the lily with little black 'bulbils' (baby bulbs) that form up and down the stem in the leaf axils. These little bulbs drop to the ground naturally, and spring up the next year as baby tiger lily plants. Over the years, you'll have an expanding clump.

This is the perfect no-maintenance lily to add to your flower border or particularly, your wildflower meadow. A few towering lilies over a wild meadow in full bloom is a wonderful mid-summer sight.

Growing Lilies: True lilies (which don't include daylilies and others which are not in the genus Lilium) are easy to grow today, and more popular every season. Since they are upright and take practically no space at ground level, it's easy to plant lilies between other established perennials and shrubs. Most can also tolerate some shade, which adds versatility for the gardener. There are many lily groups, but to keep it simple, we will consider only a few of the main types that are important to gardeners. Each lily we ship includes complete instructions for planting. So don't hesitate. You can easily bring the spectacular beauty of lily flowers to any summer meadow or garden.

'Wild' Lilies or 'Species' Lilies These are the true wildflowers from the world over. They are the ones all the glamorous hybrids are descended from. We're fortunate to have some of these botanical treasures on our list of lilies this season.

Oriental Hybrid Lilies are the now famous, very fragrant ones with large, flattened flowers such as red Stargazer and white Casa Blanca. These are the ones now so popular in the floral trade, but are also very easy to grow. They bloom from mid-summer through early fall. Most have very large, outward-facing, fragrant flowers.

Asiatic Hybrid Lilies are today's largest group of garden lilies, quite easy to 'naturalize'. This growing group of lilies was begun by hybridizers in the US, and were first called 'Mid-Century Hybrids.' Compared to Orientals, the Asiatic Hybrid lilies bloom earlier (early to mid summer), the plants are shorter, the flowers a bit smaller, and most blooms are upward-facing and star-shaped. Some of the most famous Asiatic Hybrids are yellow 'Connecticut King,' and the famous red, 'Gran Paradiso.'

Tiger Lilies. This group is led by the famous old orange wild lily, which used to be called Lilium tigrinum. Botanists have changed that to Lilum lancifolium, but that doesn't stop most people (including us) from using the old name 'tigrinum.' From the original orange, the hybridizers have created new colors from white to pink. All have the large flowers, black spots, and tough perennial qualities of the original. (By the way, don't call any old spotted orange lily 'tiger lily'. This one is the real thing, and no lily common name is more mis-used.)

Trumpet Lilies Sometimes called 'Aurelian Hybrids' or other names, the large, tall trumpet lilies are all descended from The Regal Lily, a white wild species lily from China. All are incredibly fragrant, and wonderful for cutting. They grow tall, and often need staking, since a well-grown stalk can have over 15 huge flowers.

Smells soooo good!
Oh my gosh guys! This soap smells soooo good! I have tried a few different bars and none of them were great. A lot of citrusy smelling soaps. I'm not a citrus fan. But this one? Amazing! I walk in to my bathroom a good 12 hours after my shower and the whole room smells so fresh and clean. Never has my bathroom smelled like a bar of soap unless someone just stepped out of the shower. I would buy this scent as a room sray, wax melt, candle, body mist, lotion - I'd buy it all! I typically gravitate to fresh clean scents like "clean linen" and this is great! As a bonus it is a super awesome exfoliater. Jury is still out on bumps - I only got it a few days ago, but I have high hopes. I will update my review if anything changes. (If you are on the fence just buy it!)

EATS OIL TO SMOOTH YOUR FACE
Scent: Rose, Size: 2.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
GET THIS!! here's what i've experienced with this item for the past week, and what i understand about about how well this item is working and will work based on what i've previously learned/experienced after heavy use of clay masks (successfully) in the past. THIS WILL RESTORE YOUR SKIN TO PERFECT TEXTURE (no 'large pores' at all). I'M SO EXCITED. i've been using used the kojic orange bar for a long while to try to even out damaged skin tone after overuse of clinique's face brush, which bar worked until it kinda didn't (even tho i can still leave it on til it burns a bit), so now am doing the lavender bar for morning/shower + this red tube before bed. i've used them both for a week and i am beyond excited about this red tube. this creamy product eats a ton of oil out of your pores. you'll still have the same texture of clogged pores afterward but only the color of skin instead of dark dots (since the dirt is only on top, as clean oil is always coming up from the bottom of your pores). eventually, deeply cleaning our your pores WILL eliminate 'large pores' and smooth out the texture of your skin (explained below). first, getting out so much oil that the dark dots are gone after a couple of nightly uses is definitive evidence that it's getting MORE OIL than other products. some other products MAY be getting out MORE than our daily accumulation, and so will also work EVENTUALLY -- but this is FASTER. specifically, my cheeks get clean but my nose still has dots - but i'm confident this'll catch up to digging out all the dirty oil in my nose as well. SO -- i'm sure that deep-cleaning all the dirt out of pores so there are no colored dots anymore is what they mean by 'brightening'... BUT... thoroughly cleaning out clogged pores (so deep that there's no dirt) will eventually smooth out skin texture cos the pores will eventually empty completely and then just shrink small/closed/smooth (like a baby again!). i previously experienced this progress after heavy use of queen helene's clay mask. my chinks literally shrank within 2 weeks. my pores looked the same, but the curve of my cheeks just flattened into my face. it was completely wild to see. when i applied mask mud, the oil in the pores of my nose and cheeks would actually soak dots into the otherwise dry & cracked mask so i had to pack the clay on so thick that it'd take so long to dry that i'd just take a nap for a over an hour, like every night for no more than 2 weeks. i was house/dog-sitting and had nothing better to do. and then my cheeks shrank. anyway, masks are boring and time consuming (and i did them so much that i still never feel any itchiness anymore) so i satisfied myself with progress without actually finishing my skin to perfectly smooth again -- given that actors in movies do close-ups that show terribly clogged pores anyway. THIS STUFF is way easier and quicker and less uncomfortable than a mask. you only need a small amount, maybe the size of two peas, and when you rub it on your cheeks it expands into a thickness that looks like clown makeup. no joke. the more you rub it, the thicker it gets - so i just keep going til i'm super white (and rubbing it up into my forehead) and then just rinse it off with my hands. my cheek pores look like SKIN. no colored dots at all, just texture. my nose still has dark dots but i'm sure that will also clean out eventually, too. HERE'S HOW IT WILL SMOOTH OUT YOUR SKIN -- after this cleaner, i use a toner (clinique) to tighten my pores to help narrow their newly emptied space against just filling back up again. without toner, i think the pores will still naturally close somewhat on their own. i think the closing of emptied pores (with or without toner) must also press the remaining oil closer to the surface into the empty space (given that it doesn't want it there in the first place) cos there's pressure where there's oil, and no pressure where there's no oil... i mean, using clay masks caused my cheeks to shrink altogether instead of, like, ending up with deep permanent empty needle tunnels into pores that stayed wide after the oil was eaten. my cheeks shrank cos the remaining oil moved up to the top (so my pores looked the same). forreal, your pores really don't want to be so swollen with oil that the skin in your face between the pores is literally pressed up into squishy pillows on the surface of your face. so this product with 'brighten' your face by removing the dark dots of dirt at the top of your pores, which is SO MUCH OIL that your face will press oil up to the top to be deep-cleaned again -- til eventually your pores close entirely and you have baby skin again. use an effective skin-tightening toner for even faster results. so my plan is to just keep deeply cleaning out the top oil with this stuff, tightening the empty skin with toner, and letting my skin keep pushing more oil up to be deep-cleaned by this great stuff the next night. i'm sure eventually it'll get to my nose, i might even start doing clay masks again. GET THIS STUFF!!
