A Gladiolus x hortulanus variety, also known as gladiolus, sword lilies, or glads, 'Princess Margaret Rose' is a tender perennial in Zones 7-10. For the most dramatic effect, plant Bulbs in groups or masses in beds, borders, containers, or rock gardens. Staking may be required to support tall flower spikes in breezy areas.
'Princess Margaret Rose' thrives in sunny to lightly shaded spots with rich, well-draining soil. For sandy or clay-heavy soils, improve water retention and drainage with organic amendments like bark or peat moss. Fertilize sparingly after planting and again in midsummer to ensure vigorous growth and vibrant blooms. Plant bulbs in spring once frost danger has passed, spacing them 4 to 6 inches apart and planting 4 to 6 inches deep. Stagger plantings every two weeks to extend the bloom season. After blooming, allow the foliage to grow until it browns or frost threatens. Lift, clean, and store the corms in a cool, dry place (40-50°F) until the next planting season.
